What will my Morkie puppy look like at adulthood?

If you have had your Morkie puppy for several weeks already, you may have noticed that it is changing colors. Now, I don't know about all Maltese-Yorkie mixes, since we can end up looking very different depending on whether the Maltese or Yorkshire Terrier breed is more dominant, but my hair grew out to look drastically different at adulthood.

When I was born, my hair was pure black with a little bit of brown coloring. By two months, I was black with some tan -- and a little bit of white.

Two months old, on my way home.
Under all the black, though, was a lot of white. That's the Maltese in me, peeping out from underneath all that coarse baby fur.

Around seven to eight months, my hair is growing to reveal some white.
My hair kept growing and growing. With each haircut, I had less and less black fur and more fine, white hair. At adulthood, I am now mostly white with salt-and-pepper coloring on my back. Oh, and there are a few tan streaks on my ears still.

Fully grown, and so clean and shiny!
So, what is your Morkie going to look like at adulthood? There's no telling -- but you can look for clues as your pup's hair grows out. Does there appear to be a different color underneath? Then there's a good chance that's your dog's adult haircolor.

  1. So the posts, that describe the Morkie as a Mutant,Mutt, Mongrel and various derivations of "you didnt buy a pure breed from me" might not be correct?
Our Morkie Mutant is as well mannered and tempered as any little guy can be, his hair is a constant bad hair day with attitude! Cute in a scruffy adorable sort of way. Thank you for your post on the coats evolution. From your information we have a tri-color black tan and grey, with a white undercoat coming. so likely to be white ? as an adult. Our pup (now 6 months) has the coloring of yours at 2 months coming home.
    Thanks for your information

  2. Thanks for your comment on my blog. Most days are bad hair days for me, too! But my parents still think I'm pretty cute. Your Morkie's hair is probably going to look similar to mine; once it stopped evolving, it turned out to be mostly white with a grayish hue (sort of a salt-and-pepper look) on my back and a little tan on my head.

  3. I can hardly wait to see what my morkie will look lie now when she is fully mature! She has a lot of silver, much like yours at 7-8 months! And Ginger definitely has those bad hair days as well! She is 9 months old now and every day is something new! I am greatful everyday that we made the decision to get our morkie!

  4. Hi Mila I'm Maya I'm almost 2. When my mommy saw the pictures on this page she thought I was secretly taking selfies but it turns out I look so much like you we could be sisters! I was all black when I was born, now I'm shiny white on my face & neck and grey & white on my back with a little tan on my head. My fur is very soft, and my favorite place is on a lap (some are better than others). I'm very smart, but at times I only do the things I want to do(I've been known to hold grudges,Just small ones)😉. I like to be around people, but sometimes I don't know how to act around small children. I get very nervous when my mommy gets ready to leave, and I love to follow her everywhere, but it's nice that she takes me to Grandma's house while she's gone because my doggy dad lives there too. I learn very easy (as long as you feed me treats) and I love to have my belly rubbed, but I hate water! I'm lucky because my doggy brother lives with my mommie's sister. He looks nothing like me. He has very coarse tan hair and his temperament is very different (he doesn't act like a princess, but he's pretty cute for a boy) and he's got a lot more energy than I do. But he's lucky, his eyes don't get irritated, red,and goopy like mine. I just thought I'd say hi and let you know you have a Morkie friend who looks a lot like you.

  6. Our Oliver was black and tan as a puppy but at nearly 3 years old is a soft blondish tan and a silver gray. I just call him champagne and silver.

  9. I am thinking of getting a morkie. She's all black with white tips on her paws. Will she stay black? The father is a maltese an the mother is a yorkshire terrier.

  10. Although I love my little fellow, I'm thoroughly PISSED! After reading and seeing the pictures on your blog, I realize I was sold a Morkie! I paid a lot of money on what I thought was a Yorkie. It all makes sense now. The breeder I bought him from also breeds malteses and she kept iterating how even though yorkies are all born with black coats, they could grow up to be snow white. That's because she knew what she sold me was a damn Morkie! The deception is what I'm most pissed at!

  11. I was so lucky to get my little princess. When I picked her out she was Golden with some white as a newborn. In her first year she became all white. Now that she is 1 1/2 I have noticed her coat is changing again. To a golden brown. It scared me at first because I thought she looked like she had bald spots and something was wrong. But at bath time I noticed it was her hair changing colors and the roots are a dark golden color making the ends look sparse even though they aren’t. I guess a trim is in order lol . Either way my little princess is beautiful and I wouldn’t have her any other way. Always looking forward to see what she has coming up next lol

  12. So interesting! I have had my Roxy for a year and a half. When we got her she was cream with black tips. It was so cute! Now Rox is pretty much white with some pale champagne. When her hait is short she has a silverness to her as her skin is mostly dark. She is the perfect fur baby! She was easy to teach a few commands to but is very "independent". Playful and does amazingly well with 3 human brothers. She also loves my mom's Maltese mix Snookie (we all live together) She gets knots really easy and garden to get brushed. She fights to the point I can't cut her nails myself. She fits in well with this family!

  13. My 3 month old morkie puppy (Sugar) is 100% snow white. Her father is a Maltese and her mother is an almost all white Morkie. She looks like a Maltese puppy. I don't care if she stays white or not, but right now her coat is a little bit thin. Does the density of the coat change with age?

  14. I got my morkie. But at 2 months, her hair is very short. Is that usually the case?
